Meet Kyle Empringham, Purppl Entrepreneur In Residence
Kyle dedicates his work to celebrating and uplifting young climate leaders across the country. At The Starfish Canada, which he co-founded in 2010, he helps young leaders working at the intersections of climate action, justice, and equity. Recently, he watched this community come to life at the Changemakers Summit in Squamish, BC, where hundreds of youth gathered to share their vision for a better future. His work as Entrepreneur In Residence with Purppl expands his ability to create change in the purpose sector. Through collaborations with organizations like the Okanagan Indian Band, The Binners Project and Lillooet Hub, Kyle shares his expertise while learning from teams that inspire. “My work with Purppl helps me expand my knowledge into the purpose sector. I’m able to impart different areas of expertise and guidance to teams that are kind, compassionate, and share the desire to expand their impact,” he says. “I’m in awe of what these groups accomplish and truly enjoy getting to interact with these meaningful organizations.”
Recently receiving his MBA in Sustainable Innovation from the University of Victoria, Kyle strives to help purpose-driven organizations see their ability to meaningfully impact their communities.
His ability to stay hopeful, even in the face of climate challenges, is grounded in a pragmatic optimism. “While I certainly can struggle on the bad news days, it’s the little things – going for a run, getting out into nature, and chatting with friends and family – that help me stay on course.”
“In nonprofits and charities, we’re often stuck in a scarcity mindset. But I believe we have the imperative to dream big and act big, and I hope that my work can help others see that mission-driven organizations are the ones that should be the most abundant,” Kyle Empringham, Purppl Entrepreneur In Residence and Cofounder and The Starfish Canada’s Co-Executive Director, Finance and Development.
