The Need
Building on the need for vitamin D for the human race, CRIS Adaptive is going ahead with its launch of its Adaptive Rental social enterprise. In partnership with RDCO, Adaptive Rentals is taking advance registrations for its launch of services scheduled for July 1 and will be available online to rent in the near future. Mission Creek Park is where you will find the CRIS Adaptive Rental trailer for pickup and for use within the linear park system and Greenway for 2020.
“It’s been a very interesting time since the pandemic hit the world back in March. We really wondered about our intended social enterprise launch and whether or not we were going to be able to make a go of it in this new normal.” states Shelley Buchanan Gilmore, CEO of Community Recreational Initiatives Society (CRIS).
“Our plan was to build sustainability for our charity by delving into the world of social enterprise and rentals seemed an obvious business to move into. We have the equipment that many of our clients simply cannot afford on their own and if it means them getting outdoors independently versus our guided programs, then it’s something we wanted to make happen in 2020. We have cycling and hiking options for individuals, families and couples and we couldn’t be more thrilled that we are able to get this enterprise going in our partnership with RDCO and it wouldn’t be possible without Interior Savings who has come onboard to assist with funding this social enterprise launch.”
The Business Model
Adaptive Rentals will operate much like a traditional bicycle rental shop but is focused on adaptive equipment such as recumbent cycles, tandems, E-Assist versions, trikes and trail riders. Every client that rents will have a discussion with our team ahead of time to determine any further adaptations needed to ensure their safety and enjoyment of their independent recreational experience. Call our office at 250-979-3941 for more details. Online booking and payment launching soon. Watch for us on social media and we look forward to seeing you on the trails.
Community Recreational Initiatives Society (CRIS) was founded in 2001 and offers adaptive outdoor recreation in the Okanagan Valley under CRIS Adaptive Adventures for urban opportunities; CRIS Adaptive Travel for wilderness adventures; and newly created CRIS Adaptive Rentals launching July 1.
